The highlight of our summer has always been the Barnstable County Fair. It started as a 4-H activity for my two (then) homeschooled kids (who are now in college or beyond) that slowly turned into showing goats, year long commitments, new friends. Fair week in July is now an anchor for the entire year.
We started as participants and then somewhere along the way I thought, You’ve never done this before. How hard can it be? I’ve been coordinating the Livestock Committee for almost a decade.

So every summer, the goats load themselves up in the van. We open the door and in they go, ready for a week of fun. But the kids now drive themselves, managing their time between jobs to help with the fair.
